We did Samantha’s April portraits at the same time and place as Charlotte’s which is what I usually do because I’m just not creative enough to come up with two different ideas the same month, haha! It’s hard enough getting one idea done! And I kind of like the idea of having them similar to each other.

I just love golden-ness of these pictures! The warmth of the sun shining through the broom straw makes me like summer is almost here!

It has been a gorgeous April, has it not? I love these beautiful, warm spring days! Last week I tucked my camera into the car and told the girls we were going to make a little time on the way home to capture some April pictures in a field I’d seen with some broom straw in it. I know that normally pictures of spring would make one thing of blooming flowers and budding trees but I just love the golden look of broom straw with the sun shining through it.

First we made a stop at Target where Charlotte got a blue Icee. Later, as I was testing the light she playfully stuck out her tongue and it coincidentally matched her shirt, haha! For that reason I ended up really liking that shot and it was totally unplanned…as some of the best things are

She picked some broom straw to take home with us so she could try making an old-fashioned broom…a learning opportunity!

Baby Rylie

Last week I posted Jessie and Camron’s maternity shoot that I did back in November. So this week I thought I’d fast forward and show you some of my favorites from their baby’s newborn session that I did early last month. Sweet baby Rylie was a wonderful subject…she slept, then woke up and looked around a little, then slept some more. She barely got fussy and was just the sweetest little thing!

We started with some very simple shots of her sleeping and then moved on to some different hats and head pieces and shoes and blankets and…well,you’ll see.

The props we used, like this bonnet, were handmade by Monica at Lil’ Twigs.

Jessie and Camron, your little girl is beautiful…enjoy every moment!

Samantha’s official March portraits started out something like this…I sat her in the field where I liked the light, Charlotte stood behind me teasing her and making fun, Samantha grabbed a handful of grass to throw at her, etc.

But after a moment she settled down and let me capture these two pictures of her…love!

Then she just as quickly jumped up and yelled for me to capture her doing a handstand while waving at me. It was fast, I barely caught it and managed to chop her off at the knees, but I still like it. This is her…never still for long, easily distracted, always moving forward to the next thing that catches her attention and I’m just trying to keep up. And this has been her personality since birth so I don’t imagine it’ll change anytime soon I love you Samantha, just the way you are!

Can I just say that I love this spring weather we’ve had lately? These warm, pretty days make me want to get outside and capture some of that gorgeous sunshine! So last Friday I got the girls outside and coaxed them into letting me take their March portraits. You might remember that my January and February portraits weren’t really planned. I just ended up using some snapshots that I captured. But this time we actually put a little effort into capturing portraits.

My first subject wasn’t too much into the idea…no worries, I just take pictures of what I see

After a few clicks she got more into it. I think she just decided that if I was going to take pictures she was going to be silly. No worries, I’ll capture that too!

Um Charlotte, I think only nerds give themselves bunny ears in pictures, haha!I love you darling daughter and I’m looking forward to more pictures in April!

I love being a photographer, partly because I get to some meet some of the nicest people and follow along documenting their life journey. I first met these two back in 2010 when I shot their engagement session. Then I shot their wedding in 2011 and a maternity session in 2012 and just recently a newborn session! I figured before I shared their newborn pictures I should share their maternity shots…only makes sense, right?

See how happy these two are? Love it!

Oh, the joys of snow! Especially here in NC where we’ve only had a couple of snow dustings the past couple of years. Back in February we had some snow that didn’t stick hardly at all, but Samantha was still excited enough to run outside and try to catch a few snowflakes on her tongue. Unlike Charlotte, she did pause long enough to put on her coat and I was able to catch this sweet picture of her trying to catch the snowflakes Now I’m ready for spring!

Yes, it’s March, and no, I did not blog Charlotte’s February picture in February. Are you seeing a pattern here? I’m really getting annoyed with myself!

But I did take this picture of Charlotte in February when we had one of those snow flurries that didn’t stick at all. But seeing snow falling out of the sky here in NC is pretty special, even when it doesn’t stick. So when we saw the snowflakes falling Charlotte ran outside in just what she had on…which happened to be a spaghetti-strap tank top…yeah, she didn’t say out long But I did manage to snap this shot with the snowflakes sticking to her hair.

Richie and Teresa

Richie and Teresa got married back in September and it was a beautiful day for a wedding. Perfect temps, blue skies, just gorgeous!

Details are some of my favorite things about a wedding day so I’ll start off with a few of those shots…

The pretty flower girl…

As Teresa came in the door Richie couldn’t keep his eyes off her…

First kiss as husband and wife. The minister interrupted them by saying it had lasted long enough and had everyone laughing.

I caught this cute little guest blowing bubbles before the getaway.

We made time for one more portrait on the church steps before they left on their honeymoon.Teresa and Richie, thank you both for being so friendly and fun to work with. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!

Charlotte January 2013

I didn’t take hardly any pictures in January and I forgot to take an official Charlotte portrait. So I was looking back through my snapshots and came across this one that I love. Charlotte was enjoying what little bit of sunshine she could find on a cold January day, reading her book (I believe it’s The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan), and (of course) there’s Buttons stretched out on Charlotte’s legs, taking advantage of the sunshine herself. These are the little moments I want to remember.
